ANTONIETA AGUSTÍ
Creative Performer in Flamenco and Contemporary Dance
"Every performance is an opportunity to inspire and convey deep emotions through movement."

My name is Antonieta Agusti
My name is Antonieta Agusti—”Tona” within the flamenco world. I was born in Venezuela into a family of Spanish immigrants and artists. My artistic journey started at the age of seven. My father, of catalan descend, was a music enthusiast and flamenco passionate. Through very early age I was fed with this flamenco passion. I even recall feeling stomach butterfly while listening to both flamenco guitar and the typical singer’s broken voice.

“Dance always was my modus of expression”
Back home from my ballet class.
Mérida, Venezuela 2004

I studied flamenco and ballet. While attending school, I would skip classes to be able to dedicate more time to practicing. This enabled me to to discover Arab and contemporary dance for instance. This has brought me to understand how important is the team spirit and the collective perspective in dancing along with surrendering to the maestro teaching through unconditional commitment and self-introspection.
Later on, my inner voice spoke out loud and pushed me to re-discover flamenco—this time in Spain, As a young Venezuelan artist passionate about this art it was indeed a real privilege to get to the origin and cradle of flamenco. I found myself face to face with my roots and simply felt, finally, all the peaces came together to form “Antonieta Agusti”.

Amor De Dios flamenco school was going to be my place…
I studied with different teachers, often facing financial difficulties allowing only just a few hours of lessons a week.
Everything changed when I had the immense honor to cross my destiny with Candela Soto, a strong, charismatic and elegant woman who became my mentor, a pygmalion and naturally an artistic mother. She taught me flamenco from her “guts”, sharing her state of the art knowledge and experiences with me. Thanks to her, I learned not only how to dance, but leave and teach Flamenco.
Every step of my journey has been a celebration of passion, commitment, and connection to the art that leaves in me.
Each performance is an opportunity for me to inspire and transmit deep emotions through movement, always keeping my origins in mind in a journey of self-discovery and lively purpose.
"Dancing gives me the feeling of both, vulnerability and empowerment."
